Everything was quiet and then it was not. The media expanded such as our universe. The shock radiated to become all that we knew and the only difference being that we could see the point at which it began to expand and we can see it slow down and come to a complete halt.

The lab was in silence and in one second’s time one person’s astonishment represented the total expansive glow of the universe. On his screen, signals in the form of sound pulses, begin to appear and he checks for something gone wrong. They seem irregular and irrelevant and turns off the machine and moves to the next. The same pulses. The sound does not give out. He asks others to check for any malfunctions. There were none.

The sounds over and over and over, repeating and repeating, he notices a pattern.

For one moment he dismissed it and another he starts writing them down into Morse code

-.–..—.–.

He quickly realizes that it is not spelling anything and gives up. He is not noticing the pattern more and more, repeating, constantly. He forgets it and walks into the break room. He still hears the sound. It is expelling itself from the radio in the break room. He is frightened and changes the station and the pattern repeats itself a low pitched static howl followed by a high pitched static howl followed by two more low and one more high and on and on.

He starts to write it down to lull his worry. He stops with Morse code and tries something else, binary. Several minutes pass and scrawled on a napkin is the binary that follows

0100110001001001010001100100010100100000010010010101001100100000010011100 100111101010100001000000101010101001110010000110100

11110100110101001101010011110100111001001100010010010100011001000101001000000100100101010011001000000100111001001111010101

He spends the time typing what he had written in and converts it to text and he gets an error. He figures it is not binary. He realizes binary can only be decoded if its complete. If he stopped before the code was finished then no sense could be made of it. A complete binary string must be divisible by 8 and what he wrote down was not. He ran the 1s and 0s through a pattern recognition software and found that the pattern started repeating itself after

010011000100100101000110010001010010000001001001010100110010000001001110010011110101010

He put this string through the converter and tears came to his human eyes. Solemnly on his screen all that could be seen was a simple noble fact:

“LIFE IS NOT UNCOMMON”
